The Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps (NCDSC) has destroyed an illegal refinery at Achoze, a village between Okene in Kogi State and Auchi in Edo State.
It was gathered that about 90 drums with 30 of them already filled with refined diesel were set ablaze by the NSCDC.
Addressing journalists, state commandant of NCDSC, Adeyinka Kingsley Oguntuwase, said his men swooped on the vandals on Wednesday, following a tip off from a member of the public, and that the vandals engaged his men in a shootout before they escaped into the bush.
He said the village which is 25 kilometres from Edo State has a reputation of hosting illegal refineries, adding that one was burnt down in 2012 by the Joint Task Force.
He called on the Federal Government to provide more working tools for the command so as to improve its operations.
