After one whole year of striking due to unpaid salaries and other entitlements by the state government, health workers in Rivers state have agreed to resume work.
Reports say the strike which began under the regime of former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, led to loss of several lives.
Amaechi
is reported to have failed to take serious steps in addressing the
challenges of the workers, which include inability to refurbish some
obsolete office equipment, shortage of drugs among others.
But upon resumption of the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration, a series of meetings were held between deputy governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Banigo, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and the State Primary Health Management Board and the striking doctors.
A satisfactory agreement was reached and the doctors are expected to return to work soonest.
