UTME Candidates Die In Ondo Auto Crash

A multiple road accident which occurred on Owo-Ikare road in Ondo State, yesterday, has claimed the lives of two candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), carried out on Saturday.
Information gathered revealed that the accident involved three vehicles - a Peugeot J5 car, a tipper and a Nissan.
The accident which claimed the lives of two UTME candidates was as a result of reckless driving and a failed overtaking attempt by the tipper.
According to eyewitnesses who were on the scene of the accident, two of the vehicles were coming from Offa in Kwara State when the crash occurred.

It was gathered that the tipper had tried to overtake the Peugeot J5 vehicle while trying to work it's way through a bend, but ended up ramming into the Nissan car which was conveying the UTME candidates.
The Head of Operations of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ikare Akoko, Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the death of  the candidates.
Mr. Samuel Ibitoye also revealed that three other people were affected in the accident and sustained various injuries, but were however, being treated at Ikare Specialist Hospital.
He also added that the bodies of the two candidates were deposited at the hospital mortuary pending identification.
