8 Dead, 12 Alive, 6 Missing From Lagos Boat Disaster



At least eight passengers on board a wooden boat owned by Bell Marine Services were feared dead after it capsized in a lagoon between Eko bridge and Ikorodu Waterways in the Majidun area of Ikorodu in Lagos State on Wednesday evening, April 2nd.
This is coming barely two weeks after 13 people died at the 4th Avenue, 42 Road, Festac Town, Festac, Lagos State.

According to the Public information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-West zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, "26 persons boarded the boat. 20 persons were rescued and among them, 8 persons are dead while 6 persons are still missing."
Farinloye said, the incident happened around 6:00 p.m but the information gpt to the rescuers around 8:00 p.m.
However, NEMA officials along with men of the Nigerian Navy and the marine policemen officials of the National Inland Waterways Authority, local rescuers were around in a bid to recover bodies.
