Tenant hits landlord with rod

A 35-yearold tenant in Lagos state, western Nigeria, Kingsely Okpara, has been arraigned for allegedly inflicting injury on the head of his landlord, Victor Nzewi, by smashing it with iron rod. Okpara, a resident of 11 Olorunsogo Street, Ishashi, Ojo area of the state, was arraigned before a Magistrate court sitting at Ikeja, the state capital, on a charge of felony punishable under the criminal laws of Lagos state. The second part of the two-count charge read: “that you, Kingsley Okpara and others still at large , at the same date and time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully assault or inflict injury on the head of one Victor Nzewi by smashing him with an iron rod and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 171 of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria.” He was said to have escaped from the scene and had hidden himself since the incident happened on 28 November, 2013 until he was arrested on Monday by the ‘X’ Squad of the Nigeria Police. When the issue came up at the court, Okpara was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 by Magistrate Makanju Oshodi, who adjourned the case till 7th April, 2014 and  asked  the accused to produce a responsible surety who must be gainfully employed.
