Gunmen kidnap expatriates in Ondo

 Police in Ondo State have confirmed the abduction of two expatriates working with Charvet Construction Company at the premises of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening while the expatriates, said to be from Syria, were working at a construction site within the university premises.
Eyewitnesses said the bandits arrived the premises in a Mercedes Benz car, shooting into the air and seizing their victims violently.

Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, while confirming the incident on Friday, said the police had been able to recover the Nissan SUV which the kidnappers escaped with.While trying to escape, the gunmen also shot four persons including a man identified as Olajide, who has been confirmed dead, just as his remains have been deposited at Ikare General Hospital.
He said that the kidnappers stormed the university premises and started shooting sporadically into the air.
Ogodo disclosed that four persons were injured in the process.
He added that others were presently receiving treatment at various hospitals.
The PPRO said, “The bandits abandoned the Mercedes Benz they came with and escaped with the expatriates’ Nissan Jeep, three handsets and N400, 000.”
Ogodo said that all efforts would be made to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt, assuring that the suspects would be apprehended and brought to book. Spokesperson for the university, Sola Imoru, said the incident had since been reported to the police.
