The Young Leaders Council is a global organization with focus on Africa and based in Nigeria...<br />
<br />
<br />
THE YOUNG LEADERS COUNCIL (TYLC): was founded on February 14, 2017 from a passion and desire to see youths from Africa and beyond rise beyond their challenges and take responsibility for the progress of themselves and the society. It was founded on an ache from seeing our contemporary youths, abdicate responsibility and blame the government, their background, or their immediate environment for the woes that may have befallen them. It was established out of a heart cry to see youths understand the very truths and essence of leadership and position their selves to be great and revolutionary leaders in a fast emerging world.<br />
The Young leaders’ council is poised to be the largest and most formidable leadership organization in the world with a constant drive for measurable impact and youth development. We have our focus on thematic areas of Civic Leadership, Personal Leadership, cooperate Leadership, Public administration, youth Advocacy, Public Speaking, Sustainable Development, Access to quality Information and Education, Sustainable cities and communities, Open policy making, open and transparent Governance, Peace and Justice Human Rights. We are positioned to build an alliance of the most enterprising young achievers in the globe and develop every young mind who aspires to reach such enviable height of impact and achievement.<br />
We would work with governments’ civil societies and sister organizations to ensure that the young people are adequately given an opportunity in the development space. The youths of any nation are the building blocks on which such a nation will stand and in like manner if the youths are deranged and in need of direction then such a nation is headed towards destruction. It’s our responsibility as youths who have come to realize our stake and indispensability in nation building to steer the wheel of the nation towards the path of progress by rising of to the global challenge of veritable leadership and start putting in our quota and planning our pathway. We have the mandate.<br />
It is on the foundation that we call on every youth in Africa and beyond to the table of leadership. Leadership is not in a position or title. It’s in the heart of responsibility and drive for positive change. We reach out to every individual and society to join as we organize for the development of leadership in every youth across our continent and beyond.<br />
<br />
<b> Vision</b><br />
<br />
To be the flagship alliance of established and veritable youth leaders within the globe and the equipping and rallying point for every emerging young leader.<br />

Pakistani police have killed the head of the banned group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi as he attempted to escape custody in Punjab province, officers have said.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Malik Ishaq, along with his two sons Usman and Haq Nawaz, and 11 others, were killed in an exchange of fire with police personnel late on Tuesday night, police said. At least six policemen were injured in the encounter.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder, reporting from Islamabad, said: "Malik Ishaq was arrested one week ago along with his sons. He had already spent 14 years in jail and was released on bail in 2011."</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Ishaq was on a US list of global "terrorists" and the group he founded has claimed responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of civilians, most of them minority Shia Muslims.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Ishaq and his sons were arrested by the country's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) a week ago.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Two high-ranking police officers told the Reuters news agency that Ishaq and his two sons were being moved between detention centres when a group of armed men attacked the convoy and freed them.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
A spokesman for the CTD said Ishaq, his two sons, Ghulam Rasool Shah, and two other accused, all from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, were being taken to Muzaffargarh by the department to aid in the recovery of arms and explosives.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The spokesman said that when the police party was returning after making the recovery, it was attacked by 12 to 15 gunmen who succeeded in freeing Ishaq, his sons and the other accused and fleeing away on motorcycles.<br /><br />The armed men were met with by officers from a CTD police station who had been informed about the attack on the police party and were travelling on the route that the armed men had taken, the spokesman said.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.8em !important; margin-top: 0.8em; max-width: 38em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The officers challenged the armed men, resulting in the encounter in which six police personnel sustained injuries, the spokesman said. They were shifted to the district headquarters hospital.<br /><br />A large amount of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the armed men and an investigation has been initiated into the events, police said.<br /><br />All the bodies have been moved to Muzaffargarh District Hospital. The bodies of Ishaq and his sons will undergo a postmortem before being taken to Rahim Yar Khan, where he was based.</div>

The incident occurred around July 6, with a professional hunting outfit reportedly luring Cecil outside the boundaries of the protected reserve using a dead animal as bait.</span><br style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.2000007629395px;" /><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more" style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.2000007629395px;"></a><br />

“Mr. Palmer shot Cecil with a bow and arrow but this shot didn't kill him,” Johnny Rodrigues, chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, said in a statement. “They tracked him down and found him 40 hours later when they shot him with a gun. Cecil, who was known all over the world would have earned millions of dollars just from sightseeing. Walter Palmer apparently paid $55,000 for the kill."</blockquote>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.2000007629395px;">It wasn’t the first kill for Palmer, who has multiple photos posted on the website Trophy Hunt America showing the Minnesota resident posing with dead lions, rhinos, water buffalo, warthogs, and other animals.</span><br />

“As far as I understand, Walter believes that he might have shot that lion that has been referred to as Cecil,” the spokesperson said. “What he’ll tell you is that he had the proper legal permits and he had hired several professional guides, so he’s not denying that he may be the person who shot this lion. He is a big-game hunter; he hunts the world over.”</blockquote>

Park rangers and regular visitors knew the 13-year-old lion as a tourist attraction, easily approached by safari guide jeeps for photo opportunities. Cecil had a propensity for lounging in the middle of roads, said Bryan Orford, a former park guide and a longtime visitor to Hwange. Hunting such an easy target only made the killing of Cecil even more wrong, he said.</div>

“I used to drive down the railway line road following Cecil and had to wait for him to get off the road,” Orford said last week. “This walking in front of the vehicle would go on for ages. Other times he would lie in the road, and you had to drive off the road to go around him.”</blockquote>

The death of Cecil not only means one less endangered African lion in the world but also could mean the demise of a whole line of cubs sired by the leader of the Hwange pride.</div>

“The saddest part of all is that now that Cecil is dead, the next lion in the hierarchy Jericho will most likely kill all Cecil's cubs so that he can insert his own bloodline into the females,” Rodriques said. “This is standard procedure for lions.”</div>

There is tension in Inuosegba community off Akorede Estate in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, following the discovery of items-severed human wrist, pupils’ bags, uniforms and ladies underwear- in a building.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The discovery was made during the search for a missing 18-months-old child.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The toddler, identified as Hezekiah Opeyemi Ogundele, was playing at the venue of a naming ceremony at 4:10 pm on Sunday.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
But while the ceremony was yet to begin, the child was discovered to have vanished.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
It was gathered that the naming of Mr. Olusola Osunleke’s daughter was put on hold indefinitely.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Apprehensive guests, including the cleric, who was to officiate at the ceremony, began to comb the surrounding bushes and homes, searching for the child.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
During the search, they discovered the severed wrist of an adult human being, ladies’ underwear and children’s items near a bungalow, 35 metres away from the venue.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Upon approaching the building, two persons sighted near the premises claimed they did not see a toddler.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
It was gathered that later in the day, Ogundele’s uncle returned to the building, forced the door open, where he saw strange things.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Following surveillance of the building, a commercial motorcycle operator who visited the building was arrested and handed over to the police at the Lafenwa Divisional Police Headquarters, Abeokuta.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
<em>The Nation</em> visited the building believed to owned by a herbalist, Olasile Ifayemi, and witnessed vandalising of the over seven room bungalow, desecration of his shrine and destruction of over a dozen pots of horrifying fetish objects.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The palpably bewildered residents said they never knew that a young herbalist lived in their midst and runs a ritualists’ den in the neighbourhood.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), police battled to control the crowd which was bent on torching the building.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The 26-year-old fashion designer and mother of the missing child, Elizabeth, said she was preparing to attend the ceremony when she discovered that her son has disappeared.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
According to her, during the search she saw two young men in a building adjacent to the Osunlekes’ house and asked them if they saw her son, which they denied.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
She said while walking away, she instinctively looked back and saw the two men making strange signals to each other which prompted some women to storm the building but they scared the women away by stripping themselves naked.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
But before the men got to the building, the occupants had fled. But one of them who returned later was apprehended and kept in police custody.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“I started searching for my son, and searched a new bungalow where I saw two men sitting outside the house. I asked if they saw my boy, but they looked at each other and replied no.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“As I turned away, they started laughing. I searched behind the house where I saw many fetish objects. I quickly turned back and I couldn’t find the young men again, so I called my husband Daniel and he reported to the police.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Police Commissioner Abdulmajid Ali said investigation has begun.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He said: “I want to make it clear to the people that I am here to work and reduce crime.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">

<img alt="President plans to name oil thieves" src="http://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/buhari-1.jpg" /><br />
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that his administration is close to ending the sharp practices in the oil and gas sector. The perpetrators will be named, he said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He also spoke of his ongoing search for “decent”, “patriotic” and “selfless” politicians and technocrats who will be ministers. The President has promised to name his ministers in September.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Buhari, who spoke on his vision for a greater Nigeria on “Good Morning Nigeria”, a Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Abuja, pragramme, said oil was still being illegally exported by July 3.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He said the Federal Government was working assiduously to expose those behind the reported under-dealings in the oil sector, promising to update members of the public on the government’s investigation into the matter.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
According to him, the government’s aim is to identify and prosecute all those found culpable. Shipping documents are being compiled for onward submission to countries of destination of stolen crude oil from Nigeria.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
His words: “The search continues; up to the third of this month (July 3), our crude was still being illegally lifted by people who are in government. We are trying to get these documents. We are getting the cooperation of the international community.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“We are going to make sure that those who perpetrated this theft against Nigeria are faced with facts very soon and are taken to our courts.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“We’ve got the cooperation of some of the countries of the destinations of our crude (oil) and we are discussing with them.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“We have to maintain high confidentiality so that we don’t risk some of the loyal Nigerians that are helping us to trace the destinations of this stolen crude and then the accounts into which the monies are being paid instead of the Federal Governments account.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Buhari said his administration was studying the recommendations on how the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) should be reorganised.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He described his recent trip to the United States (U.S.) as very successful as he was able to extract the commitment of President Barack Obama to assist and support the country in tackling its economic and security challenges.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He said the U.S. and European countries had also pledged to assist Nigeria by putting in place a security mechanism in the Gulf of Guinea to check oil theft.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Responding to a question on the quality of his Federal Executive Council (FEC), the President politicians and technocrats would make the list of nominees for ministerial appointments.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He said: “From what I have seen so far, we need really patriotic Nigerians – Nigerians that can work very hard, knowledgeable, experienced, committed Nigerians – to be in charge of ministries.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“A lot of the institutions of Nigeria – important institutions – were compromised. Everybody was for himself and God for all of us; it’s most unfortunate.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“We have the people, educated people, experienced people but everybody seemed to be working for himself – how much he could get as much and as quickly as possible.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
“We have to look for technocrats and we have to look for politicians and certainly we have to look for decent people in this class to give them the responsibility of being in charge of ministries and important parastatals (agencies).”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
On the leadership tussle in the National Assembly, Buhari urged those behind the dispute to search their conscience and abide by the party’s decisions.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He urged Nigerians to cooperate with his administration to develop the country and warned that no part of Nigeria would be allowed to operate on its own.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.3999996185303px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The President added that Nigeria “must remain one”.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
A picture they say speaks a thousand word, because of its ability to quickly convey so much meaning with so little, if any, explanation.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The powerful ability of a single image to convey so much information, feelings and complexity with much dexterity was aptly captured on social media, Monday, 20th July.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">It was a picture of the governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, in symbolic hand shake with president Obama of the United states in white house, Washington DC while president Buhari stood behind and watched in excitement as both leaders exchanged pleasantries as if both had known each other for years and were in a reunion of sort.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The picture which had already gone viral on social media, kept mouth wagging. It did not only cause traffic on social media platforms that uploaded it but also generated comments, many including the governor’s critics, also applauded the governor’s symbolic hand shake with Obama.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
One other interesting fact about that picture is that the peoples governor was not the only governor among the entourage that accompanied President Buhari to the White House. The question now is why was he the only one the media focused on? Could it be because of the rapt attention President Obama gave him in their tete-a-tete? If that’s the reason, then, “why always Rochas”?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Though many may ask; of what benefit is such picture to Imolites? That picture has revealed some facts some of us have blindly refused to see about Gov. Rochas Okorocha. The peoples governor, through his inclusiveness has moved beyond Nigeria, he has begun to conquer nations of these world.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The peoples governor’s inclusive approach to governance is gradually sowing seed of unity among the ethnic groups that make up this nation.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
A time will come when such would result in explosion of persons with root every where. A new generation of citizens who would have no cause to separate themselves along petty and tribal sentiments.</div>
<div class="wp-caption alignleft" id="attachment_544608" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; float: left; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 10px; line-height: 15px; margin: 0px 20px 20px 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 422px;">
<img alt="Okorocha" class="wp-image-544608 size-full" height="232" src="http://cdn2.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/412x232xOkorocha-e1438024686285.jpg.pagespeed.ic.4r2yCmkLVA.webp" style="box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.247059) 1px 1px 1px; line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" width="412" /><div class="wp-caption-text" style="border: 0px; color: #666666; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px 8px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The purported billborad</div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The peoples governor has so far joined the league of true elders that plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
That explains the reason why president Buhari would always insist that Gov. Rochas Okorocha would be among his entourage on such foreign trips.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Gov. Okorocha’s symbolic handshake with president Obama has also revealed similar characteristics between both leaders. President Obama was born on August 4, 1961 he will be 54 years next month while Gov. Okorocha was born a year after Obama on September 22, 1962. He will be celebrating his 53rd birthday on September, a month after Obama’s.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Both have also distinguished themselves in their chosen careers, while Okorocha is a detribalized Nigerian, Obama is a black-American with his roots from Kenya. Both of them are from the African continent, both of them were and remains philanthropists, orators, teachers, educationists, peace makers, the voice of the poor, activists, accomplished administrators, seasoned politicians etc.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Could such distinguished features be the reason behind the symbolic hand shake between both leaders?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Obama’s journey to the white house began as a junior senator representing Illinois. As governor of Imo state could this as well be Okorocha’s journey to Aso rock in future?<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />Time will be the deciding factor.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Three villagers were beheaded during weekend raids in Cameroon by Boko Haram insurgents from neighbouring Nigeria, who killed another four people in a separate raid overnight, security forces said Monday.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The first attack took place on Sunday in the neighbouring villages of Tchebe-Tchebe and Dzaba, about 10 kilometres (six miles) from the Nigerian border, said a security agent based in the region.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The beheadings took place in Tchebe-Tchebe.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The assailants also set fire to land owned by villagers as well as a Catholic church, the source added.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The report was confirmed by another local security source, who said that access to the villages was difficult for troops because of the mountainous terrain.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Another four people were killed overnight in the town of Afade, much farther north, near Lake Chad, Cameroon police said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“Boko Haram attacked the town of Afade around one in the morning (Monday),” a gendarmerie official said, requesting anonymity.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
He said the assailants torched police and military facilities and slit an inmate’s throat.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Three other people in detention died in the fire, a local humanitarian worker, Mey Ali, told AFP.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Sunday’s violence followed a series of Boko Haram suicide bombings in the far north of Cameroon, which is taking part in a regional military campaign against the extremists.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The cross-border region is frequently attacked by Boko Haram, which launched its campaign for a hardline Islamic caliphate in northeastern Nigeria in 2009, at an estimated cost of more than 15,000 lives.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
On Saturday night, a 12-year-old girl blew herself up in the town of Maroua, killing at least 20 people and wounding 79 others in the fifth suicide bombing in Cameroon in two weeks.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Cameroonian authorities last week extended a ban on the wearing of the full Islamic veil to the east of the country and the Littoral region in the southwest, where the city of Douala is situated. The ban, implemented because the garment can conceal explosives, was already in effect in Cameroon’s far north.</div>

Lord John Sewel, 69, apologised for the “pain and embarrassment” he had caused after the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun newspaper published pictures of him apparently wearing an orange bra as he chatted to two sex workers.</div>

Scotland Yard has launched an investigation into his actions and raided his home at an exclusive block of flats near the Houses of Parliament on Monday night.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: sans-serif; line-height: 15px;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Lagos—The West Africa Examinations Council, WAEC has threatened to withhold the results of thousands of students from 19 states who participated in the May/June 2015 WASSCE over non-payment of candidates’ registration fees by their state governments. </span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Speaking at its national office Yaba, earlier yesterday, the Head of National Office, HNO, Mr Charles Eguridu said: “The affected states should off-set the registration fees of their candidates as soon as possible, as we cannot guarantee that the results of their candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE will be released alongside others.”</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">According to him, a total of 19 states in the country are owing the Council due to the entry fees for states government-sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">He decried the nonchalant attitude of the states towards payment of the debt which amount to N4 billion, adding that effort by WAEC to make them pay the money proved abortive, hence WAEC has resolved to make it public.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">However, Eguridu declined to name the indebted states but urged them to pay up within the next two weeks.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">“Many of the states of the federation, as part of their education policy, pay the registration fees of candidates for the WASSCE, particularly in the public schools.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">“This is quite commendable as it afforded many indigent students the opportunity to sit for examinations and relieved many poor parents of this financial burden.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">“As I speak to you now, we are cash-strapped as a result of the delay in off-setting the registration fees owed the Council by some states. As a result, we are finding it difficult to meet our financial obligations, particularly to our supervisors, examiners and service providers.”</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">“We have written to the affected states governments without any response. The poor response is threatening the smooth operations of the Council.” He lamented.</span></div>

Security operatives have recovered 2,000 cattle and rams in Birnin Gwari Local Government area of Kaduna State in a joint operation against cattle rustlers.</div>

The <em>News Agency of Nigeria</em> reports that the recovery, which included a donkey, was made after they raided the bandits’ hide out in Birnin Gwari and Damari village on Sunday and in the early morning of Tuesday.</div>

Hell was let loose, last week, in Oto-Owori area, Ijanikin, Lagos State, after a 16-year-old member of the famous Abogun family, made startling confessions about how she was initiated into cultism and lesbianism by the younger sister of her uncle’s wife. Parents of the victim who were shocked by the confession reportedly alerted the police after she was caught while attempting to sneak out of the house with some items demanded by her cult members.</div>

Revelations<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />According to the victim (names withheld), who completed her secondary education in June, “it was Tope who introduced me into lesbianism and cultism early last year. On Friday, at about 7-8pm, I received a call from Tope that I should bring my red jacket, which is the cult uniform and a jack-knife for her. While I was attempting to sneak out of the house to meet her, I was accosted by my brothers who checked the bag I was carrying and found the cult jacket and the jack-knife. They called on my parents who demanded to know how I got those items.</div>

Becoming lesbian partner<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />“Initially, she forced me into becoming her lesbian partner. She threatened me that if I failed to do it, my life was at stake. When I became her lover, we took a blood oath as Tope used a blade to cut my hand and licked the blood. She also cut her hand and asked me to lick the blood. She threatened that she must not see me with anyone, whether male or female but she was free to go out with others as she has other lovers. I have been her lover for over a year now and I became her lover before I completed my secondary education.</div>
<a name='more'></a><br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />“After Tope introduced me to lesbianism, she forced me into their cult. The night I was initiated into Aiye cult, I was blindfolded. Members of the cult gave me a gun to take an oath, declaring that I would not reveal anything about the cult to anyone. They said if I ever revealed anything about the cult to anyone, the same gun that I used to take the oath would be used to take my life. Thereafter, about twenty of the males present at the initiation slept with me one after the other.<br />
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Strange gun appears<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />“Two months ago, I stole my father’s N50, 000 and gave to her. There was a time she gave me a gun to keep for her. I kept the gun in my book-shelf two days. She gave the gun to me because she said she couldn’t take it home. Later, she collected it and gave it to a member of the cult. I really don’t know what they use the weapon for. The red jacket which is the cult uniform was given to me by Segun. He is the leader of the Aiye cult. Since I became a member, I haven’t been able to go anywhere with them because of how difficult it is for me to leave home as my parents don’t allow me out after 6pm, and most of their activities are usually in the night. There was a time they asked me to trail my elder brother because they said he is arrogant.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Shooting at birthday party<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />In her defence, 18-year-old Tope (surname withheld) who initially confessed that she gave the gun to Kemi to keep because she could not take it home, later denied the allegation that she is a cultist.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
According to her, “I have known Kemi from my childhood. I am a salesgirl. I was arrested because the victim said I introduced her into cultism and lesbianism but I am not a cultist, and she didn’t give me money.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“I have not seen Kemi for more than a month now, since my birthday which I celebrated on June 21. Although they fired a gun at my birthday party, I don’t know who fired the gunshot but Samuel was with a gun that night, and I know that Samuel is a cultist and he attended my birthday party. It was a cult guy called Daddy that threatened that if I refuse to join their cult, he will deal with me and shoot me in the legs with a gun.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Recruiting young girls as armourers<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />Crime Alert gathered that young girls were recruited into the cult group as they are used as armourers who keep the ammunitions for them any time they go for operation. It was learned that based on the revelations, the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ijanikin Division of Lagos State, SP Robinson Eregare, swung into action and succeeded in clamping down on all the suspected cultists connected with the victim’s initiation. Among those arrested were Musa Kareem, Austine Ebosoje and ten others.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Police reacts<br style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu said Temitope Famati, an 18-year-old lesbian, Ogunsan Kemi , another 20-year-old lesbian, Oseni Lukman, 30; Chidi Okafor, 25; Musa Kareem, 26; Austine Ebozoje, a 19- year-old pirate, Segun Sowumi, Olatokunbo Babatunde, 18; Gbelebu Samuel, 17 and Hussan Azeez, 30, were among the cultists arrested so far.</div>

<br />At a meeting in Washington today with representatives of the World Bank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization (WHO), President Buhari said apart from rebuilding the region in terms of infrastructure, priority must also be given to the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs), who now number over one million.<br /><br />He urged the World Bank to send a team, which would work in concert with a team from the Federal Government, so that a proper assessment of needs could be done.<br />The World Bank will spend the 2.1 billion dollars through its IDA (International Development Agency), which gives low interest rates loans to government. The first 10 years will be interest free, while an additional 30 years will be at lower than capital market rate.<br /><br />The World Bank is eager to move in quickly, give out the loans, and give succour to the people of North-east, long at the mercy of an insurgency that has claimed over 20,000 souls.<br />WHO is also to invest 300 million dollars on immunization against malaria in Nigeria, while the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will collaborate with Dangote Foundation to ensure that the country maintains its zero polio case record of the past one year. If the effort is sustained for another two years, Nigeria will be declared fully free of polio.<br /><br />FEMI ADESINA<br />SPECIAL ADVISER, MEDIA AND PUBLICITY<br />JULY 21, 2015</div>

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Read the full transcript below:</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: Mr President you have asked the United States to help you in the fight against Boko Haram. What exactly did you ask in this regard and answers did President Obama give you?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
President Muhammadu Buhari: The United States leading the G7 promised to do what they can to help Nigeria. So we have brought our requirements in terms of training, equipping and intelligence-gathering for Nigeria to be able to fight Boko Haram.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: You mention the economy and the fall in oil prices over the last many months. How are you going to deal with that? Because that is really what your people want.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: My people, firstly I believe, they want the security in the country to be stabilized so that normal life, both in the southern part of the country where militants are still sabotaging oil installations and kidnapping people and demanding ransom and then in the north east of the country where Boko Haram is still active. This is a main preoccupation of Nigerians now and is a realistic way of looking at things. Nothing will work until the country is secured.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: But despite your vows to tackle Boko Haram, there are reports in your own country that there have been at least 400 deaths by that group since you became president. Added to that, Amnesty International reports that your military has totally lost the credibility and trust of the people because of the systematic human rights abuses, the killing of some 8000 people. How do you expect your military to be able to go against Boko Haram, to get the trust of the people instead of being a platform for Boko Haram’s grievances?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: Well I have just mentioned that under Lake Chad Basin Commission, we have agreed to form a multinational joint task force, so whatever happened before that decision was taken, we have to allow further investigations to verify the question of human rights abuse. And with that I am sure you must have known the decision taken by this government – the federal government of Nigeria – in changing the military command.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: What about the famous Chibok girls, the 200 or so, abducted so long ago; yet again there has been a suggestion that the Boko Haram captors may seek to trade them for their incarcerated inmates who they want to get out, is your government willing to trade those girls in that regard?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: We have to be very careful about the credibility of various Boko Haram leaderships coming up and claiming that they can deliver. We have to be very careful indeed and we are taking our time because we want to bring them safe back to their parents and to their schools.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: So are you in principle against, or will you consider, negotiating with Boko Haram if you can verify the credibility of those who approach you?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: I cannot be against it. I told you our main objective as a government is to secure those girls safe and sound back to their schools and rehabilitate them to go back to normal life. So if we are convinced that the leadership that presented itself can deliver those girls safe and sound, we would be prepared to negotiate what they want.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: You came to power on a platform that you will do better than the previous president in all regards: security, corruption, economy etcetera. But there have been hundreds of people killed since you become president. How can you do any better?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: I think I can be held to my promises for the next three and three-quarter years ahead of me. And I think 12 weeks or so are too early for any person to pass judgment on my campaign promises.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: What about your campaign promises to root out corruption, if they turn out that some of the guilty ones were members of your own party or your own associates; Will you crack down on them too?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: I just have to; there isn’t going to be any party member or any personality that can escape justice.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: Are you disappointed that President Obama yet again is not coming to Nigeria. The biggest and most economically powerful country in Africa?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, but how I wished he will change his mind and go to Nigeria.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: Did you ask him, did he say he would?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: Well I asked him and that I will send a formal invitation.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: Let me ask you about a previous African leader, the former dictator of Chad, Hissene Habre who is being tried – or at least they are trying to try him – in Senegal; do you support that process of trying an accused African leader in Africa, rather than at the International Criminal Court?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: Justice is justice, whether it is done in Africa or elsewhere in the world. The important thing is let justice be done. Whatever evidence the prosecution has in Senegal, I think they should proceed to make it available to the world and prosecute him according to international law and human rights.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Christiane Amanpour: So you support that process?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Buhari: I support any process that is based on justice.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Raleway, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 2.6rem; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">

Gordon Obua, the detained former chief security officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan, fainted on Monday. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Obua, who has been detained by the SSS in Abuja since the night of July 16, had embarked on hunger strike to protest the conditions of his detention. He was denied access to outsiders, including his doctor, lawyer and family members – and his lawyer claimed on Sunday that Obua was also denied his medications for hypertension and diabetes.</span></div>

The effect of the hunger strike took its toll on the detainee on Monday and he fainted, according to an SSS source, leading to speculations that Obua had died.</div>

The source added that Obua was taken to the hospital and was treated and discharged on Monday, after which he was returned to SSS headquarters where he is being detained.</div>

It is unclear if Obua has been allowed access to his medications. The SSS is yet to officially comment on the detention of Obua, who served as CSO to Jonathan from 2010 to 2015.</div>

A US-led coalition air strike earlier this month killed the leader of an Al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria that American officials accuse of plotting attacks against the United States and its allies, the Pentagon said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px;">
Muhsin al-Fadhli was killed in a “kinetic strike” on July 8 while traveling in a vehicle near the northwestern Syrian town of Sarmada, said Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px;">
He did not confirm whether a drone or a manned aircraft had killed Fadhli, 34.</div>

Fadhli was allegedly the leader of the Khorasan Group, a group of senior Al-Qaeda members who have traveled from Central Asia and elsewhere in the Middle East to Syria to plot attacks on the West.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px;">
The Kuwaiti-born militant was so trusted by the inner circle of late Al-Qaeda supreme leader Osama bin Laden that he was among the few who knew in advance about the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, according to US intelligence.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px;">
“His death will degrade and disrupt ongoing external operations of Al-Qaeda against the United States and its allies and partners,” said Davis, who heads the Defense Department’s press operations.</div>

Counterterrorism expert Bruce Riedel, however, a former CIA analyst, called Fadhli’s death a “serious but not fatal” blow to Al-Qaeda in Syria.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px;">
Davis said Fadhli was also involved in October 2002 attacks against US Marines on Kuwait’s Failaka Island and on the MV Limburg, a French oil tanker.</div>

A viral online video apparently showing a home-made drone firing a handgun in the US is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).</div>

The announcement came on Tuesday, after the video had been watched more than two million times since being uploaded to Youtube on July 10.</div>

The 14-second video, called "Flying Gun," shows a multi-rotor drone hovering off the ground, buzzing furiously and firing a semi-automatic handgun four times at an unseen target in the countryside.</div>

The video has sparked fresh debate about the still largely unregulated world of civilian drones in the US.</div>

<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to dump the report of the 2014 National Conference.<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />The conference was convened by the former administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
Punch reports that Buhari was not ready to implement the report despite the fact that Jonathan handed over the document to him, alongside the handover note.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
It would be recalled that Jonathan during his handover ceremony on May 28, urged Buhari not to discard the confab report.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
However, the Presidency claimed that President Buhari was not ready to implement the report because he never believed in the conference in the first place.</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
Rather, it said the President would stick to the recommendations of his transition committee led by Ahmed Joda.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
He said, “President Buhari never believed in the National Conference. His position is not different from that of his party, the APC, which snubbed the invitation to send representatives to the confab.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
“The conference and its report are Jonathan’s babies and you won’t expect this administration to implement the report, especially in this era that all we have been doing is to try and clear the rot left behind by the same administration.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
“The President had not even at any time made any reference to the report. It is not on his agenda.”</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
Buhari had accused the immediate past administration of wasting billions of naira on the conference.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
Some of the recommendations by the National Conference was that anybody aspiring to become the country’s President must be a degree holder, among other recommendations.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
However, when contacted, Buhari’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Adesina, said he had no information on the matter.</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
He said, ‘‘The President will do what is in the best interest of Nigerians.’’</div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px;">
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said, “Like I said before, we will look at the document and any area that is beneficial to Nigeria and Nigerians will be considered.”</div>

British Metropolitan Police Service has launched a recruitment programme to employ new officers who can speak Yoruba and other languages.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
A total of 14 languages which have a high prevalence in London’s communities have been chosen for what the Met called a month-long pilot recruitment which started on Monday.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
According to a statement issued on Monday by the MPS, the move was designed to bring officers into the Met with skills necessary to help the police and engage with London’s diverse communities as effectively as possible.</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
The statement said in part, “It follows the introduction last year of a London Residency criteria to ensure candidates have a strong link to the capital and an understanding of its diversity and cultures. Candidates who apply to be police constables will be tested in the second language as part of our rigorous selection process.</div>
<center class="ebz_native_center" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; height: 0px; line-height: 19.5px; margin: auto; overflow: hidden; width: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
“The chosen languages are Yoruba (Nigeria), Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Italian, German, Turkish, Greek, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Sinhala (Sri Lanka) and Bengali.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Bernard Howe, noted that more than 300 languages were spoken in London, the capital of Britain.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
“I am committed to providing a police service which looks and feels more like London. We need to recruit and deploy officers with second languages in areas where those languages are spoken. I believe it will help boost confidence, help to solve crime more effectively and support victims and witnesses,” Howe said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
The MPS stated further that it employed around 31,000 officers together with about 13,000 police staff and 2,600 Police Community Support Officers.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
“The MPS is also being supported by more than 5,100 volunteer police officers in the Metropolitan Special Constabulary and its Employer Supported Policing programme. The Metropolitan Police Services covers an area of 620 square miles and a population of 7.2 million.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
“For this reason, we are introducing additional language eligibility criteria as a key skill to become a police constable. While our police officers are able to effectively carry out their duties without the ability to speak a second language, a police constable with this skill is an asset in helping both themselves and their colleagues to more effectively engage with the community and deal with everyday policing situations. To apply, you must be able to speak one of the 14 languages below: Yoruba (Nigeria), Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Italian, German, Turkish, Greek, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Sinhali (Sri Lanka), Bengali,” it said.</div>
